Boston is one of America’s most famous cities, and it has the economy, infrastructure, and educational systems to match.
With all of that in one city, Boston has an almost-uncountable number of educational institutions, for-profit businesses, nonprofit charities, government outreach organizations, and much more.
And all of them need to make sure their customer demographics can find them.
That’s why SEO is so important in Boston. Without it, the city would be clogged with billboards, flyers, and signage — even more than it already is.
With SEO, companies can take their business to the Internet to reach the most-qualified customer demographics possible. That way, businesses (like yours) don’t waste time or money on people who don’t want anything to do with your company.
That makes SEO one of the most efficient and intelligent marketing investments in the world. With it, your Boston company can grow well beyond the city’s limits into Newton, Medford, Chelsea, Revere, and well beyond.
But when it comes to SEO, you only want to deal with the best. And how can you be sure you’re getting the best when there are so many SEO agencies out there?
We have the answer right here. At SEO Companies Ranked, we’ve rated the top 10 best Boston SEO companies so you can find one that meets your needs, budget, and expectations all at the same time.

How to Pick Your Boston SEO Agency
While it’s always nice to have a list of the best SEO companies in Boston, it’s even more important to find an agency that works for you.
That’s why, in addition to our list, we want to help you find your ideal SEO partner.
The first step is to check out our list. Take note of any agencies that meet your requirements for pricing or size so you can be sure you’re starting off on the right foot.
Then, add those agencies to a short list of possible candidates. This list should have five possible agencies at most, although you can choose to add more if you want to dedicate more time to your search.
After that, it’s time to look at each agency’s website. Each website will have three main pages you should see before going to any others: the homepage, the About page, and the Testimonials page.
The homepage is important because it’ll show you how the SEO agency presents itself to the world. The homepage should incorporate modern design elements and technical SEO measures. You should also be able to view the page conveniently on your mobile phone or tablet.
These qualifications matter because they show whether SEO agencies are up-to-date on their digital marketing information.
If a homepage loads slowly or provides a poor experience for any reason, then that agency isn’t up to date. And if they can’t keep themselves current with the SEO industry, they probably can’t keep your site current either!
Next, the About page is important because it lets you make sure the agency is legitimate.
The About page should have original photos, high-quality videos, descriptive text, and / or other information that helps you understand the company better.
If they only have a few short paragraphs and stock photos, then they’re not a strong choice for your business!
Last, it’s important to look for a Testimonials page on an SEO company’s website.
Because they’re in the SEO industry, it’s crucial for an agency to understand the importance of online reviews. If they don’t have a Testimonials page, that means they probably don’t have much good feedback from their current or past clients.
If they do have a Testimonials page, look to see how many they have. A good agency will have about 25, a great agency will have about 100, and the best agencies will have 300 or more.
After you’re done looking at those pages, pare your shortlist to include only the companies that meet your expectations.
Now, it’s time to contact them directly.
Talk to a rep from each agency and get a feel for how you’d work together. If you hit it off, that’s great! If you butt heads, move on.
This is crucial because most SEO contracts last for more than 12 months. So if you don’t get along with an agency from the very beginning, you probably won’t have a constructive relationship over the coming year.
With all of that done, you’re ready to make your final call and partner with your new SEO agency!
